Educational Advocacy: Ensuring Success for Foster Youth

Overview
FosterED Connection provides comprehensive educational advocacy services, designed to support foster youth throughout their academic journey. With the instability that many foster children face from changing homes, schools, and caretakers, our programs ensure that each child has consistent educational support. We collaborate with schools, teachers, and Child Protective Services to make sure that each foster child’s educational needs are met, regardless of their living situation.

Key Services:

  • Individualized Education Support: We follow the child from school to school, helping them navigate academic challenges, enrollment issues, and maintaining school credits despite transitions.

  • IEP & 504 Plan Assistance: For students with special needs, we advocate for proper Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) or 504 plans to ensure that they have the accommodations they need to succeed.

  • Tutoring and Mentorship: FosterED provides access to tutors and mentors who offer one-on-one academic help and encouragement, helping foster youth stay on track and reach their full potential.

  • Tracking Educational Progress: Our case managers track each child’s academic achievements and ensure they meet important milestones, like graduation or vocational certification.

Why It Matters:
Statistically, foster youth are far more likely to drop out of school, with only about 50% of foster youth in some regions graduating high school. At FosterED Connection, we are dedicated to changing that narrative by providing consistent educational support tailored to each child’s needs.
